PUTTING TEA BEFORE COFFEE
We are John and Renata Strange – tea enthusiasts, ex-restaurateurs and parents to our son, Fletcher, and Jackapoo, Soda.
For as long as we both can remember, we have always loved tea – drinking it, of course, but also creating our own blends and discovering brand new fusions.
Our passion for loose leaf tea stems back to our childhoods. In our respective hometowns of Belfast and Komarno in Slovakia, we were both brought up with loose leaf tea and always preferred it to a teabag.
From the day we opened The Crossing Point Café in Kirkby Lonsdale many years ago, we always toyed with the idea of blending our own teas. But these plans were put on the backburner due to the busy day-to-day lifestyle of owning a café/restaurant/wine shop.
The idea made its comeback when a serendipitous conversation took place with the owner of a famous tea company, who passed on the names of some of the most important people in the industry, including buyers.
As soon as we found we had 10 strong flavours of tea, we decided to soft-launch them in the café and then moved to retailing them. These unique blends are now only available in a handful of quality establishments.
We want to change perceptions of tea and help people discover new and fascinating insights.
For us, The Tea Keepers is all about experimenting and taking the time to perfect the flavour.
